And they do! They really do! They truly want me to be thankful.....or
they want to be thankful that I'm not responsible for the cooking. Hy-Vee, here I come!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
What are you thankful for, today & everyday?
I'm thankful I'm sober.
I'm thankful for my parents, brothers, cousins, aunts, grandma, nieces/nephews - ALL of my family.
I'm thankful for my friends.
I'm thankful for this beautiful house & an awesome car.
I'm thankful I have health insurance (even though....nope, won't go negative)
I'm thankful I have support for every aspect of my life.
I'm thankful I can get out of bed every morning, workout, take care of myself hygiene-wise, and drink copious amounts of coffee.
I'm thankful for Elvis. Man, I love that damn cat.
I'm thankful for the sun.
I'm thankful for Christmas decorations- they bring me such happiness.
I'm thankful I have a brain in my head that somewhat works.
I'm thankful I'm as healthy as a 20-year smoker can be.
I'm thankful I can have food on my table, a roof over my head and family close-by.
I'm thankful I know to be thankful.
The last two days have been pretty down days. When I say that, I think of downward dog and I don't like downward dog, so I guess that's fitting. Do some downward dog push-ups and you'll feel the same way.
I've just been sad and depressed. Sitting in my med-check therapist's office yesterday, I realized this may be the wall I hit with Abilify. So we upped it. I'm still sad. hahahaha, like it'd kick in that fast. I have unrealistic expectations, I know. We also upped the Klonipin at night to help me sleep. It didn't work last night. And I had some damn funky dreams again. I can't even share them with you they were so off-the-wall.
In the therapist's office, I told her when I can't sleep, I think. And I usually start out thinking negatively. Then I try to turn it around, but inevitably wind up back in negative-land and have to start all over. She let me off the hook- at least I'm recognizing the negative-talk and I'm trying to change it. She said I've been thinking this way for a long, long time so it isn't going to change overnight. Give myself a break. Because I always berate myself when I go to negative-land. How did I get back here? You're such an idiot! *eye roll*
She also asked if I'd talked to my parents about how I was feeling. I told her no. I think my parents are as sick of it as everybody else, so if I'm sad, I'll just be sad in silence and pretend to be somewhat happy otherwise. She said not to do that - to call my folks and ask them to call me a couple times a day just to check in. I haven't done that. I guess I should. I'm still sad today, dammit. I always think working out will make me feel better, but it only works when I'm doing it. Afterward, I'm back to a long, daunting day sitting in front of me and I just want to crawl back into bed. And I cry. I hate crying. I'm so damn sick of crying.
I really hoped today would be a better day. So far, not so good.
Isn't all of this just ridiculous? My therapist & all of you must be so sick of listening to me by now. I'm sick of talking about it all. I just want to be normal. Is that so hard? Apparently.
Anywhoo, today is about Thanks & Giving so let's get back on track!
I did both workout circuits
twice this morning! I doubled up because tomorrow's a big eating day - it's our Thanksgiving. So I'll do it twice again tomorrow morning, too. I don't want to feel guilty eating all that I know I'm going to eat. Thankful.
Mom asked me to go over to their house today to help her with her Christmas decorations. Giving! Oooh boy and am I excited! I love decorating. Even when you have to put everything away, you still have to redecorate for 'winter' so it's like having new decorations all over again. I love the stuff that I have. I need for nothing. Thankful.
I was wearing slipper socks when I went to bed last night and since I can't have anything on my feet when I sleep, they landed next to the bed. Or I should say, in Elvis' food dish. He just can't leave my socks alone. I rarely wear socks around the house (the floors are too slick) - I wear slippers. But when I do wear socks, he literally tries to take them off my feet to drag them to his food dish. I think if he could get to my underwear, he'd do the same damn thing. Thankful? Yes, I'm thankful for Elvis' quirks. I love him like a fat kid loves cake. Doesn't mean I'd make a good mother. I'm a good pet-owner. Let's keep that straight.
Yesterday I stopped by the library to see if they had any good movies to rent. As soon as I walked in the door, I saw Lee Child's next new book, "Never Go Back". I was sooooo excited. To get excited about a book, when I'm having such a hard time reading - yep, Thankful. AND they had 3 good movies to rent. They made my day and I told them so. Thankful.
I'm sure thankful for a lot but I don't do a whole helluva lot of giving, do I? No, I don't. I'm not a giving person. I'm completely and totally selfish. If it doesn't suit me, I'm not going to do it. No, I take that back. Last Saturday, I gave. I gave to Younger Brother. Because I hate shopping more than anything else in the world at this time of year and I went with him anyway. GIVING, big time.
And I lost a bet with Mom & Dad so I'll be 'giving', as in taking down a wallpaper border they want taken down. We're holding off until January to do that, but I'm still
planning on Giving.
I'm giving food to people who show up for the open house. Does that count? I helped bake the sugar cookies and I'm going to make the pretzel/almond bark/M&M concoction, so is that giving? I'll also have apple cider and decaf coffee and melted snowmen (water). That's giving, isn't it?
I'm so desperate to come up with "Giving" I'm just making shit up at this point. I should focus more on giving next year. I have a Bucket of Bliss I've been keeping all year long and come January 1, I get to go through it and read all the "blisses" I had in 2013. Maybe I should make a bucket of giving; what would that be called - a Gift of Giving? Kind of redundant. I'll think of something witty.
On this Thanksgiving, I'll leave you with my favorite funny this time of year:
